It's not the same thing.

 

I believe that the han chinese and the hakka immagrated to Taiwan which known previously as Formosa. Initially the dutch colonized, which later after WWII Kuomintang (KMT) a political party withdrew from China to Taiwan, which currently controls Taiwan.

It is not that China formed Taiwan it is that the migration of the han chinese created the Taiwan we know today.
