Byron hid in the trunk and hired people to help him take my car!

I am writing this because I believe there will soon be some postings regarding my former business partner, Byron, and his best friend, Alan Adam (ASR) with regard to my white Impreza, known as "The B-Spec Impreza".

When Byron was asked to leave my company in October, I explained to him that I could no longer continue to accumulate debt on his behalf, and that I planned to sell the 93 Impreza in order to pay down the company debt. He agreed, but then I received a phone call warning me that he planned to take the car to another state, and leave all the debt with me. To prevent that, I took possession of the car stored it on October 7.

Almost immediately, a thread was started here, asking fellow I-Clubbers to help Byron find "his" stolen car. Once I learned of that, I posted that the car was not stolen, but that I had it in a safe place, awaiting the proper paperwork to facilitate a legal sale.

Recently, I've received e-mails and phone calls from someone from Utah (Kirk Hathaway), begging me to let him see the car, that he wanted to purchase the car for $30K, and that he had seen it at Sema a few years ago and it was his "dream car". I told him I could not sell it until I finished getting it properly and legally registered, but I let him talk me into taking him to showing him the car (since he said he would be in Cali for vacation this week). When we got to the storage garage, they got out, and Byron popped out of the trunk where he had been hiding. Two other friends of Byron's also showed up in separate cars, one being Alan Adam (ASR). I was in fear of my life. Byron had recently threatened me, but said he didn't know whether killing me would be worth the price of free room & board in jail. Alan Adam was there to back him up. I had picked up one male friend of mine on the way, because I don't know these guys from Utah. I dialed 911 and shouted for help. Shortly, about 8 cops showed up.

Byron had reported the car stolen from his house in December. Imagine this: 5 guys, lured me into the garage, Byron popped out of the trunk, took the hood prop from my hand and tried to start the car. But the battery was dead and it had one flat tire from sitting for 5 months. I did not know what they planned to do to me, but they were stopped because I was not alone, and several people saw us leave in this guy's car. They said they did it "for the money". They all say that they would not have hurt me, but when I saw him come out of the trunk, and all the others, I saw my life flash before me and had thoughts that I would not be able to say good-bye to my family. I was frozen in the spot and shaking all over. I could feel my blood leave my head and thought I might pass out. I was thinking they were going to knock me out and throw me in the trunk and head back for Utah. I can't eat or sleep.

I filed a restraining order the next morning. I got all my paperwork on the car, and the police gave the car back to me on Tuesday. The police realized that the stolen car report was false, because the car had been in my possession from October until March 13, and is registered in my name only. There is no way it could have been stolen from Byron's house on December 9th. What he did (false-reporting) is only a misdemeanor.

I'm telling you about this, to warn you that we must all be careful when dealing with people we don't know. I advise all of you to have a friend accompany you when you must meet someone you don't know.

This has been very distressing for me to go through. I understand he is still building motors, and is working with Alan Adam from ASR. I want you all to know that I am not affiliated with either of them, in any way.

If any of you have any suggestions or comments, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I believe I am known to most of you as a pleasant, honest woman, who loves racing and Subarus. But I do not value any car above human life. The Utah guy said that he hates women and trusts no woman, and that's why he was willing to help Byron. Can you imagine how you would feel if the same thing happened to your mom, wife, or girlfriend? Or, even to yourself. They had planned on meeting me down there with five of them and one of me (I am 5'2"). Now, a week later, I am still very distraught. I will pursue restitution through the courts.

I will offer the 93 Subaru for sale very soon, so if anyone is serious about buying it, just let me know and I'll contact you when it's ready to go. I'm considering e-Bay ...

I am a survivor and a positive person ... I'll snap back soon, and hope to see you all at the Rim in May.
