Outdoor tables on the pedestrian-less sidewalk are a rarity in the San Gabriel Valley. It is a welcomed exception to the florescent-lit, super-chilled rooms of too many other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. Savoy Kitchen is different---both for its fusion dishes and an outright cool beat. There are only a few items here; the menu is limited to pastas, curries, and pizzas. The Hainan Chicken Rice is a star attraction here. It comes with three all-important dipping sauces: a sweet soy sauce; minced ginger and scallions marinated in oil; and a sambal of red chile and lime juice. Wonder how the Chinese interpret pizza? With dough made with potato starch and toppings such as Seafood Combination and smoked duck with enoki mushrooms. For pastas, you can have your angel-hair or penne with sausage and peppers. Or you can try them with conch and prosciutto sautéed in a white-wine sauce.
