Anyone been to Catalina?

I'm thinking going for my birthday next month. Don't want to take my vacation time though so I plan to go for only a day. I heard it was nice. I was also looking at the Channel Islands but it seems more rugged (no restaurants, stores), wilderness stuff. I love marine life so thats whats pushing me more. Things to do you guys/gals can recommend?

Catalina is more for couples,.old people and fishermen.. there is some stuff to do... but it can be a bit pricey. but you can go on a weekend and camp over night.. thats cool..
they have a few nice restaurants. and you can rent kayaks and some other things like golf carts and snorkels. other then that its not that much fun unless your rich... they do have an ok skate park...but I don't think you are going there to skate.''

I have never been to the Channel islands..but I bet it will be more what you are looking for...
just a pack a big lunch and lots of water kinda day`.

Catalina island? I've been there once. It's pretty damn small. I got sea sick on the ride over. There's a lot of "fixed up" golf carts there. lol

Make sure you take a boat tour on the Blanch W. Ask them if you can become part of the red dot club.

Camping on Catalina is nice. You can find out everything you need to know about the island, how to get there, what there is to do and so on on-line. Like everyone else said, it's pretty small, and you can see most of the island in 1-2 days. I would definitely recommend some sort of tour though, especially if you're into marine life.

Have fun - it's beautiful there in the summer!

Are you going alone? If so, that seems like a nice and relaxing way to spend your special day

Thanks guys/gals. I'll definately be taking a tour on the new submarine or the glass bottom boat, maybe both. And knowing my gambling ***, I'll be sure to visit the casino too. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Snap some pics too.

The glass bottom boat sank last week. The submarine is fun though.

I'm going alone to Hawaii in September through my birthday. I can't wait to turn my cell phone off, leave my laptop at the hotel, and not have anybody bother me for a week. Absolute bliss!

Have fun on your trip!!
