My opinion on STi OEM muffler

Hi,

I recently purchase new? STi OEM muffler from Nekard. By the way thanks alot for the great price and super fast shipping. If interested in buying one ask Nekard. Well anyways back to the the subject. I was very skeptical about this but it was this muffler or the WRX OEM. And couple of reasons why i got it was because:

1. I can't stand the dual tip OEM muffler (sooo ugly, to me atleast)

2.I've gotten 5 "modified exhaust tickets" which are $85 each here in NYC, and the 5 were with 5 different exhaust (HKS carbon Ti, STi performance muffler, Apex'i, Turbo XS, Blitz Nur spec).

3.I didnt want a <4" tips anymore, and the TXS one was too funny looking, i like the slanted cut chrome tip of the STi muffler.

I've read lots of threads here and there of people saying is not worth it, get something else, its this and that. Well for those people who want to get it...i say two thumbs up. You might think the only difference between the two mufflers are the tip but its little bit more than that. The STi OEM muffler is noticebly lighter, and by shinning a light into the muffler, u can literally see that its much less restrictive that the WRX OEM.

Installing was a breeze, UPS delivered yesterday around 10:33 AM and i was riding with my new muffler by 11 AM. Since its OEM, fit perfect. My thoughts on after installing it...i turn on the engine....."wait.....it sounds the same....***???? wat a waist of MONEY~!!!" and as my friend is laughing at me, i step out and see the muffler and from the outside it sounded completely different~!!!!!!! Is a lot throatier and deeper. I take out of for a drive and it just sounds perfect. Is loud in a sence that it more noticeable but quiet in a sense that it doesnt give u a headache or force u to scream in the car (the wrx has such poor noise reduction).

Do i feel any HP gains....??? i think so, my setup so far is up/down pipe and the WRX OEM exhaust, as a driver could feel it was restrictive.....once i put the STi OEM muffler, it was a whole lot smoother and more than anything just get it for the looks and sound. If u are more concerned about HP gains go for something else.

Also (not to **** off any STi owners) the Muffler looks better on the 02-03 than the actual STi itseld. My reason is because when i look at my friends STi muffler on his STi it seems to sit very low and u can see the ugle silver muffler. On my car atleast its more up hiding the muffler more, more of a snug tight fit and the tip is just where u want it to

I used to have this muffler too. I've noticed that it hangs lower than the turboxs-magnaflow muffler, and my current prodrive muffler. As far as sound goes, i did like it a lot. I prefer the prodrive and magnaflow mufflers over the sti one though since the power gains are much better in those.

I STILL LOVE my loud a$$ perrin exhaust..... I set off car alarms all the time w/o even trying to. I just had to get really good at my elite 1st-to-3rd shifting skillz when the man is nearby .

I like the look of the STi muffler too.

But I love my Prodrive.

best sounding WRX exhaust (i.m.o.) that I've yet heard.

Stealthy looks

I think my 2nd choice would be STi sport muffler or Perrin (but afraid of the noise!)

I love my Blitz. Its really loud, but I have a silencer for whenever its needed. I've been complimented on my exhaust by numerous people. One older guy on a motorcycle said he had not heard a nicer sounding exhaust since he heard a '65 Cobra. So I am very pleased by my exhaust.

I love the grunt my prodrive puts out when I turn the ignition. Its pretty intimidating sounding, i always start my car with the door open. The STi one is pretty neat too but, a bit too humble in sound for my taste.

i have the sti exaust in my wagon. i noticed a different sound but not significantly. my friends say it sounds better. i even got pulled over for the exaust!(LOL) i was like.. its factory. the cop then tried to say "no it's not" then i showed him my sti seats. the funny thing is i never got a ticket cuz he probably believed there was a sti wagon whats even funnier is that the exaust is so quiet! i can tell the difference when i drive my sti(naturally louder of course)
