A/F guage reading

What is the A/F guage "supposed" to look like. I had one on an integra and the guage would bounce back and fourth... lean-rich. all of the time unless I was cruising it would go lean when I lift off, or fully rich when I boosted. ON my Impreza it doesn't bounce around, it stays in the stoich range when cruising, under boost it is rich.. sometimes when I mash on the gas instead of it going rich it will go lean )off the chart lean) and then go rich a second later.. is this normal for suby since they have wide bands??? Or is my A/F guage just retarded? Help.. also does anyone know where a guy can get a primary O2 sensor for a good price?>

I have th autometer in mine and it does the same thing. At idle, it doesnt even register, its below lean. At full hrottle, it will usually hop up to the high stoich, and occasionally rich. What I have heard is that they are useless unless you change the 02 sensor.

A search of this forum using keyword 'wideband' may yield some useful information.

Doods.....A/F gauges in our cars are useless UNLESS you install an aftermarket o2 sensor somewhere. The stock o2 sensors do not/will not work with A/F gauges.
So....it would end up costing ~$500 for a good, accurate digital o2 gaugeWhen it is all said and done.

Aren't A/F gauges fairly useless anyway, unless you have some way of datalogging the readings?

Let me correct myself. If it's one of the ones that have the different colored bars that bouce up and down and only give you a range or guestimate rather than a somewhat approximate figure, it's worthless.

That's pretty much it. IMO, you're better off getting an EGT gauge or a fuel pressure gauge, unless you plan to spend some good money on an AF ratio gauge. A TXS tuna is probably your best bet, but that's good money.

I have a friend that has a UEGO wide band kit so as soon as I tune my car I will get something worthwhile.
