Here is a different headlight mod idea.
Has anyone tried a bi-xenon headlight retrofit? I saw a Mercedes today and the headlights look very very similar to the 2002-2003 WRX / Rs Headlights, Tell me what you think?...
Look here for pic

ever since I saw those MB headlights a few months ago I've been looking all over for a way to convert or retro fit them...
definilty the whole housings wont go over but I have found some resources on retro fitting the bi-xenon projectors....
some good info:
http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/
just about any site that talk about retro fitting refrences this page
http://hidforum.com/
a forum dedicated to retrofitting projectors lots of people here who do this professionaly and a few tutorials (not wrx but maybe they'll work?)
http://www.illusion-lighting.com/
a company that does retrofits... from the above forum they have a reputation of being THE best retrofit place... longest still in the business... a little more expensive but worth it acording to most people.
http://www.hidtech.com/
considerably cheaper than illusion-lighting but relativly new to the game (from what I've read in the forums) they ARE however in the process of converting some WRX headlights and the site says they will post pics soon... I've emailed but they never got back to me
also another tidbit of information that I didn't know but found usefull is that projector lenses for halogens is very different from the projector lenses for HIDs... this means that everyone who bought projector headlights (morette, STi, etc) and then upgraded to HID is using the wrong projectors in their headlights... they're probably getting a lot of glare and dimmer light over all.
another usefull piece of information is that normal HIDs take a few seconds to warm up to proper brightness that means that if you use highbeams or "flash to pass" on a normal HID it will not work/well wear out. which is why most projector headlights have 2 projectors 1 for high beam 1 for low. the bi-xenons arn't effected by that becuase they work by having a phyisical shutter across the back top of the projector lense then it has a solenoid that lifts it for high beams flash to pass so there is no damage to the HID and you get quick response.
I hope that info is as usefull to you as it was to me.... right now I'm waiting for those WRX pics to go up on hidtech... they sell a set of bi-xenons from hella (probably from an Audi) with HIDs for about $500... so If someone bites the bullet s does the conversion and posts it on scoobymods.com I think it would be benificial to all. it'd be less than most of the projector headlights out there... you could paint it to look like the STi projectors... and you'd have the proper projector for the HIDs installed.... sounds good to me
if you get anymore info let me know

Peep the link again, sorry 'bout the delay.
tell me what you think.
I need some minor adjustments but overall I am pretty happy with the "final product"

execlent work....
that would be my ideal setup...
a question... do the bi-xenons lift the shutter on high beams or does it just use the other lamp?
also after doing this how difficult do you think this would be in a stock WRX headlamp (my main reason for doing this is I can't afford the nice STi lamps)

It does both!!
The stock highbeam switch activates the bixenon projector shields and the stock halogen high's as well. I'll post some long distance night shots tonight so all can see.
BTW- The shields are actually pulled down (remember physics, everything is upsidedown and backwards in a lens of this type)
Peace!

Twisted,
As for doing a retrofit into the stock lights ( this was my original plan) I think the most difficult thing here is the cosmetic aspect. If you look at the Hella projectors the lens is kinda ugly and the metal used in the mounts is unpolished, etc. You would have to make some kind of bezel to cover this area. The STI lights already have this in the form of a 3in "tube".
BTW check out this guy /gals thread
He used Hella 90mm retrofit projectors and added a nice "demon eye" effect to the stock headlights.
Best of luck!!

holy crap.... that's exactly what I want to do... thanks for the great link...
yeah I was planning on getting a hold of some metal plates to create a bezel then paint the inside black... as an added step (because I have jun eyelidst too ) was going to remove the turn signal from the top of the headlight and swap it with that small light on the side (you know the one to the side inside the headlight)...
thanks agian for the link I'll be PMing that guy... he doesn't live too far from me either so maybe he'd be nice enought to help me out if i need it.
