so i have RE070's on the sti bbs's right now, and i am in need of new tires, i found some azenis' on cl and i was wondering if anyone has gone grom the RE070's, which i love, to Azenis' on their suby? i cant spend 850 on new re070's and need tires soon.

 

The falkens are no good on the track. They get too greasy for road coarses when they heat up that much (in autox they don't get that hot for long enough to experience this). Those that argue it have most likely never tracked their car wight the tires, autox and canyon driving just don't produce the same temps that the track does. The Hankook R-S2's or whatever are supposed to be better on the track than the falkens. I had them on the street, driving twisty roads daily (my former commute) and they lasted 20k miles. I now have the Dunlop Z1's, but I haven't pushed the limits of them.

True, the user ratings are new so they may reflect more positively on the tires than the Potenzas (What I used previously http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Potenza+RE-01R ) but I have been more than impressed with the Star Spec's overall Vs. Potenzas.

 

What about the new RE011's? I think thats what is called.

They are an excellent choice but I was talking about them in my previous post. Tire rack has a writeup with a comparison here:

My experiences are relatively in-line with the review.

Edit: Nobody has mentioned the Falken Azenis RT-615's which are another great tire but a little harder to find in sizes that some people run. I still think that:
Dunlop Direzza Spec Star
Bridgestone RE-01R
Falken Azenis RT-615
in that order are as good as it gets for auto-x type performance in a streetable tire.

You should also note that for similar traction benefits and only a cursory nod to better wear and ride comfort the RE-01R costs almost double the cost of the Spec Stars.

 

RE-11 is the replacement of RE-01R.

Yeah, the RE11 may come in above the Star Spec, but then you have to ask yourself, "Self, are we going to be using this tire hard enough and for long enough to warrant spending an extra $200?"

For me, $50/tire puts it easily out of my price range.

I'm rolling on Star Spec myself now. I went on a track day end of last year & they were awesome!

 

Yeah, maybe by the time I need new tires Dunlop will release something new to put them back on top

I want to see the full review when it comes out, because where the Dunlop Star Specs truly show their worth is in cooler tire temps. They have superb grip at lower temperatures when compared to other tires. This is why they grip SO WELL on the road, because road traveling temperatures are a lot cooler than the track.
