I believe that the menu reflects the quality of food being served, and that comes at a higher cost than simply throwing hot dogs and burgers on a grille and calling it BBQ. The price going up by $2/person isn't that huge of a jump is it?

Well put. This was exactly my thinking. Not worth having to pay extra for the few people that want a beer when they can just as easily bring it themselves if they want it bad enough. And I don't see why beer would be necessary. It's a meet and BBQ. Not a frat party.

I'm going to bring a small ice chest with a six pack of micro-brew for the people who are working on the BBQ grille. Getting that hot requires a beer or two to cool down...

Because alcohol SUBSTANTIALLY increased the price to EVERYONE when not everyone will be drinking. Then toss in the legality of providing minors with alcohol as it WILL happen. Having to get permits at the park for alcohol. The police KNOWING there will be alcohol provided. Etc. Etc.
Unless you plan on buying a couple kegs and charging per beer which makes no sense either. BYOB is the best way to go. Let people take responsibility for themselves and keep the price down.
You want to take responsibility for a bunch of 12-20 year olds getting drunk and crashing then go for it. This is why I didn't make any of the planning meetings. I knew no one would listen, no one has before so why would this year be different.
oops. mean to quote brucelee.

Only problem with that is people like you, AKA Beer snobs are never satisfied with beer that is provided. Yeah, it'd be great to have a micro brewery serving us, but thats not very realistic. In the past I have provided a mix of Corona, Becks, Heiny, and budweiser I think. I know you'll call them "**** beers", etc, but like I said before, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Besides, a nice cold **** beer is really refreshing on a super hot day.
So BYOB it is, I totally understand but wanted to throw that out there since I have done it in the past and still kept the cost at $10 a head.
OH YEAH! I almost forgot the most important thing! We need orange cones to block areas off! The last thing we want is people parking in our area. Walmart sells small plastic soccer cones for like $2 or less for 5 cones. They are durable, easy to transport, and much smaller than those HUGE rubber cones that the city uses.
It would be in everyone's best interest if we had cones so we could block off an area for i-clubbers ONLY.

Another thing, it would be nice to design some signs or posters that we could put up around our area so that everyone knows what area is ours, this will also keep strangers out of our event.
In the past I've had random people show up and just get in line for food/drink, pretending that they are with our group... I had to approach these people and threaten to tell the ranger/cop since it was a special event so that land was ours for the day and unauthorized people are trespassing, or something like that...
This happened every year for the last 3 years even though everyone at the event had their hand stamped with red ink and a checkered pattern stamp, not to mention food tickets. By putting up clear fliers or posters that say "PRIVATE PARTY, I-CLUB MEMBERS ONLY!" and then draw a skull and cross bones... ha ha ha

Substantially? Hardly... Costco sells 30 packs of cans for like $20, two 30 packs should be enough for those who want to drink since a lot of folks wont be.

just as a note.... my beer fridge in my garage is currently fully stocked...
with a 12 pack of bud, about 30 coors lights, a 12 pack of blue ribbon and 12 sam adams in case jeff rolls out. Hardly "beer snob" quality beers.
last time I rolled through a play it again sports they had loads of those cones so that's another place to look.
60 beers... are you still expecting the regular turn up of about 500 people?
just curious... cause my HOUSE bbq's I provide about 200-300 beers.
but this is just beating a dead horse as the correct decision was made already and there's a pretty low chance I'll even show this year so that should make you happy enough to drink a whole beer all by yourself.
Looking foward to seeing some photos.
Oh... and as a side note... any of you hot rod fans should come out to our show.. Pride of the Champ in Antioch. AUGUST 9. sponsored by monster energy drinks. Gonna be a ripping show. Last years was insanely fun. Do a search on it.

Updates...
I already HAVE cones... (real ones, my mom stole them)... and I have no problem throwing them in the van...
For the signs... Since I work at Kinko's I can probably get some of those with relative ease... I originally wanted to get a bunch of signs but have since scrapped the idea... but I'll think about it...
I don't really have a huge issue with "Strangers" coming to the event... We are all kind of strangers anyway right? as long as there aren't any *******s we shouldn't have any problems...
As for the price and the food... It is a little pricey this year for a couple of reasons... A) I don't really have a great deal of money to begin with and I am really trying to at least break even... B) there will be REAL food (not 110 pizzas in the back of a forester)... We have also come to the conclusion that we will have wristbands for the people who are getting food...
And Finally...
Remember that you can buy both food and raffle tickets NOW...
$12 - Food Ticket
$1 - Raffle Ticket
Prices will go up at the door
Please get your tickets in advance
Paypal to iclub.baic@yahoo.com
I will also be accepting cash at the meets (UCKK, MVKK, SJW, and XLL)
I will try to make it out to as many meets as possible

good idea with the wrist bands.
if you want people to buy early so you can cover food I'd suggest an incentive. The $5 is nice but say a gift bag for all preregistrations. Throw stickers from the sponsors in there. A couple raffle tickets and a coupon for a discounted t-shirt. You'll get more prereg and be able to cover more costs up front.
