Choku is correct. Yakuza is strictly a Japanese phenomenon. And if you see a giant American automobile on the street, chances are it's driven by a Yakuza.

Triad is Hong Kong, China, and, if I heard correctly, Philippines?

1. I thought you went with your wife?

2. There are more Japanese swords in the US than in Japan, the "International" Samuri sword show was about a month ago in one of the hotels near SFO, if I knew you had the interest I would have invited you. Lots of stuff for sale, you can get new old and very old Japanese swords there. Still pretty expensive.

3. When you talk about the milk, you are talking about the soy milk right? I saw very little cows milk in Japan, not zero, but not common.

4. The difference in price between the $80 and $100 dollar cantalope is how close to spoiling it is. When I was there cantalope and honey dew were pretty expensive. Bananas were expensive too, but affordable, only like $5 each for a yellow one and $1 each for brown.

Looks like crazy fun dude - I wish I could go
1. I did. Someone had to take all the pictures of me with those girls

2. lemme know next time it comes to town whit!

3. yep, dairy milk.

4. Actually produce was surprisingly cheap if you bought it at a regular grocery store, not much more than here, this was just at some super expensive department store, you can still get melons for a couple bucks, dunno what made it worth $100, guess the fancy box

Lotsa triads in Southeast Asia in general due to the drug trade of the Golden Triangle. Some yakuza operate in the PI too from what I've heard.

Origins of the word "yakuza": It originates from a reference to hanafuda, a card game that is played in Japan on New Year's and on a regular basis by certain individuals. In hanafuda, the lousiest hand is one that adds up to twenty (I won't go into the rules and whatnot, but just know that the deck is different than a Western deck, if you wanna know more just Google it). In the olden days (like the 1800s), most gangsters were gamblers and hanafuda was one of the most popular games. People started calling these gambling roughians "yakuza" in reference to a hanafuda hand of 20. There's some linguistic difficulty, but bear with me: to get a hand of 20 in hanafuda, you can get an 8, a 9, and a 3. In Japanese, the words for these numbers are "yatsu" for 8, "kyuu" or sometimes "ku" for 9, and "san" for 3 (technically, there are two methods for counting in Japanese but I'll get into it later). So if a native Japanese speaker says it together, it's changes slightly to "yakuza". Hence technically, you're calling gangsters "8-9-3"s, which adds up to 20, which is junk in hanafuda. In a roundabout way, yakuza by definition are useless to society like a hand of 20 in hanafuda is useless to any player of hanafuda. No, I didn't come up with this, it's a known Japanese trivia fact

And on that note, a language tidbit: In Japanese, pronunciation of a word can change dependent on situation, as is sometimes the case in English. Just think of when you say "defer" and "deference" (blah, doesn't work in type haha). So in Japanese, boat is normally "fune" but can change to "bune" in certain circumstances. Also, in Japanese, there are TWO counting systems: one based on Chinese, and one "native" system. Depending on the situation, one or the other is used. For example:
1: ichi, hitotsu
2: ni, futatsu
3: san, mittsu
4: yon, shi, OR yotsu
etc.
