Just to let you know, it is ilegal to ship entire cars crashed cars from japan to the US... thats why all the companys cut the cars in half so they can ship them. I dont know the exact law but unless you are shipping to europe, it wont fly

Just to let you know, you are wrong. You dont know the exact law so you dont know about this.
It is illegal for a US citizen or resident alien to import a car from outside the USA (Canada is mostly an exception)
A non resident alien can bring in ANY car that they want for a period of 12 months.
Anyone can bring in a car over 25 years old.
A damaged car is imported for parts only. If you can find the place selling the cars, YOU can import your own car too.
All you have to do is, first find the car, then get payment for it to Japan or europe, then arrange for shipping then, get the contaner shipped to the US, then have customs clear it, then get it from the port to your location. The EPA does like to have the shell destroied though.
The reason cars come in as front clips is because they can ship 5 or 6 FWD drivetrains for the same cost as 2 complete cars.
YOu are correct in ONE part only, they dont fly, they come by ship.

just to let you know, don't give that kind of attitude if you are trying to deal. you don't need to tell people "you don't know, blah blah blah". if you are trying to give out correct info, be nice. don't sound like my rear end.

Is there any sort of federalization for these cars? I know that when people import BMW M5's from Germany, it costs about $10k to make them road legal. Is it the same from Japan?

I have looked into it for about 6 straight months, and it is in fact a pain in the drain. plus dealing with guys from over seas that arent making a killing on sending cars here either.
when you do the research, leg work, and have the know how to bring them in. it is frustrating to have someone who most likly heard from someone that heard that you cant do it.
about the m5's there from what i understand pretty much the same as the usa market (crash test wise) so getting it legalized is easier im sure. the only car that id try to get legalized here in the states is a skyline. for crash testing has been done. but then its on to emmisions 30 cold starts from what ive HERD..

if what you "herd" is right, 30 cold start IS a nightmare for turbo cars.....no wonder we don't get to have all the turbo engine from Japan.

I owned the car for 5 years here...and I still see the new owner driving it around day-to-day. BTW I did have to smog once every two years and once before I sold it, just like you would for any older USDM car. So it wasn't smog exempt by any means.
Bump for all the cool toys we dont get here.
