I have Cusco 22mm rear adj. (stiffest setting) and 21mm front static, great turn in, almost zero understeer and a good amount of oversteer, just perfect. I just need stiffer springs, Teins suck!

Seriously, if you're not sure how size affects a swaybar, why do you want a bigger swaybar? Adding a larger rear sway makes the car understeer less because the rear end has less grip. You're compromising grip for handling balance.

Adjustable swaybars work by having multiple mounting holes to change the amount of leverage/torsion you get on the bar. Different manaufacurers handle adjsutment differently; for some, the bar is the smallest diameter, and then is drilled farther up to stiffen, for others it's a larger diameter, with a longer lever arm to soften it up.

I understand the principle behind the sway bar, decreasing understeer and body roll.
The exact mechanics of it, and how the adjustment comes into play are the issues that I am still learning. I understand that I will turn in sharper with it, and that is something that I feel I would like with my car.

A rear bar won't affect turn-in.

I have just been reading on other forums that it helps to "dial out understeer"

Which has nothing to do with turn-in. And ignore 99% of what you read on the internet when it comes to suspension, because it's coming from people who A) haven't tried more than one particular part, and B) don't know what they're really talking about.

Like sybir said, stiffening up your sway bars changes handling balance at the expense of ultimate grip. Since almost nobody needs 100% of available grip (especially when on good tires) on the street, this is perfectly acceptable. If there was a recipe for making your Subaru handle "better" the line saying how much sway bar to add would be "season to taste."

Yes, but not by giving better turn-in. A rear sway bar gives better rotation after the turn-in.

A sway bar does its work by transfering some of the vertical force of one strut during cornering to the other strut.

Is there a good resource that deals specifically with just suspension?

Season to taste, eh? Well, I will probably toss on that Cobb bar and see how that works, and go from there.

nkoan, Thanks for the link!

Egg Zachary.

Also, Whiteline has pretty good white papers about suspension design.

I liked this write up on the sway bar subject.

http://www.stealthtdi.com/SwayBars.html

I also thought increasing sway bar size affected turn-in because it effectively changes the spring rates when you corner? I'm confused now, what effects turn-in?
