Car Info: 2004 PSM WRX

So recently I've been complaining that it seems like my WRX has a lot less power than when I first bought it. When I floor it in 2nd it would get power for about a second, then while the turbo was spinning up I felt the car kinda of back off, then after another second or two the turbo would kick in, but then it was ready to shift again. I also noticed the turbo "swoosh" seemed to be louder beginning a few months ago.
I attributed most of the sluggishness and hesitation to the heavy anthracite rims, and the louder than normal "swoosh" to the cool dense air, but today I decided to investigate a bit.
The first thing I check is my air filter, lo and behold, the latch on the right was unclipped. I also checked my filter, and light can be seen through it, but it could use a little cleaning or re-oiling (K&N). So I relatch the filter into place, do a little test drive, and the hesitation seems to be gone!
So for future reference I've included the above diagram.
