:rotfl: haha, I'd be surprised if it was. It's $2.09 in Gettysburg, PA and $2.29 in State College, PA (Penn State) for the cheap stuff. If anything, it's the Mid-West.

E85 is 85% ethanol and 15%gasoline. its made from corn. has an octane rating of 110 or something like that.

currently, most GM cars and trucks can use it. thier called FlexFuel motors.

most cars cant use them because the ethanol will destroy our fuel systems in the car (seals and and what not)

i dont know why its really cheap...but i want it.

wouldnt the cars have to be tuned for it to take advantage of the 100+octane rating??

everybody, please correct me if i am wrong with any of this information!
thanks!!

I thought E85 has a lousy octane rating? Flex fuel motors lose a little power and have to run WAY richer. Gas milage drops like 25-35% compared to running nromal 87 octane. If it behaved like 100 octane you could run way leaner under load and pick up quite a bit of fuel economy.

Yes, you do get little bit worse gas milage. But, the FFV cars run a bi-system. In other words if there was no E85 around you could run on just regular gas. Which im sure is all ECU controled.

But thats what the E85 website says. 105 octane, made in america.

A guy here in Denver converted his RS to run on E85. I talked with him at our last big meet, and he was telling everyone about how much more power he had on teh butt dyno after just switching to E85. I saw the dyno results somewhere and he wasn't kidding! Plus, he said that as far as mileage, when he stays off the accelerator he gets a respectable 18mpg.

Ethanol is made from America's ABUNDANT source of Corn. It's not REALLY hard to make, it's a byproduct of corn. I can get a ton more information from some of the prof's at my school. There's a huge debate in PA (big corn state) about it.

I do remember hearing that even with all the corn we had, if something like 50% of the cars ran on Ethanol, we would not have enough corn to make that much. We would end up having to import corn, therefore driving up the price of anything corn related. (soda, corn starch, corn meal, cobs of corn, etc)

The most important corn based products are cereal and corn syrup for my coke.

Someone used maggot filled rice and made 150 proof. So, corn isn't the only source. Mabie its more of "startchy" food. I wonder if corn has the highest starch factor.
