Foam is too freakin hot. We tried one out when we were looking to buy our new bed about two years ago and the foam just baked us. Get a nice pillow top and you'll be good to go. Ours is a back care matress that has extra lumbar support built in to the bed. Then we got the memory foam pillows. I love that bed.

I use a hard spring mattress with a comfy mattress pad and a slat type bedframe from Ikea, uber comfy and uber cheap, about $300 (queen size) for everything if price it right.

I love my pillowtop and it wasn't very expensive at all. 500 for a queen size. But I recommend a better bed if anyone sleeping in it has a bad back.

I also like the feather bed on top of the matress. It is like a fluffy cloud sucking me in for the night.

we have a spring, its the individual springs which makes a TON of difference. it has a nice cushy top (sorta like a pillow top w/o the down) and i've never slept better!
if you go spring, MAKE SURE its individually wrapped coils!

we got it at the furniture store on sunrise (south just past folsom blvd & the lightrail tracks on the right), where OSH used to be. if you get to Wendy's, you went too far. I think we spent ~$700 for the queen set.

i have a spring bed w/ pillowtop. they say it's not the stiffness of the bed that matters but the support it provides. i like soft beds, so it's cushy.

i have a bad back, and i sleep great on that bed. i also have the tempur pedic pillow. i think that helps a great deal too.

the bed was $450 (queen) and it came w/ a serta sheep doll!

Foam kicks ***...

We have a CalKing Tempur-Pedic bed and love it. We went with the Classic model which is the most firm mattress. It allows air to flow through the mattress which should prevent it from being too hot over the summer.

We tried the softer mattresses in the showroom and found that the softer it was the more you sank in to the mattress. I could see this being hot over the summer, but with how firm the one we bought is - I would be surprised if it was any hotter than a traditional mattress.

I am not going to do the wine glass test they show on TV, but when my fat *** gets in bed the other side is not disrupted at all. I have not tried yet, but I bet that if my wife was on one side and T-Will's mom came and serviced me on the other that wifey would be none the wiser. Then again, the smell might wake her up but the pounding probably would not.
