I can't figure this out.
What year/model is the GC8 refering to?

I believ it is context of the chassis of the 94-2000. I am not sure of the years but it is somewhere in there. When i was looking at RS's before i bought my car I saw alot about GC8

Ha now that someone else paosted it was 93-01

A coupe STi would be GM8, sedan GC8, wagon GF8. Also, the code for the coupe American 2.5RS's were GM6 (6 standing for the 2.5 L N/A motor)

I got a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS.
The VIN indicates that it is a "GM6" chassis.

GC8 never a USDM car, though a lot of people mistakenly call their 2.5RS of the same body style a GC8 (when its really a GC6 or GM6)

/looks like a lot of people got it already.

I dont think the GC8 specifically meant the STi. As long as it had a turbo 2.0 then it had the "8" for the engine code.

Correct. I believe one of the next few letters in the VIN designated the trim. The numbers were merely the engine displacement and turbo/NA.
