want to install dp

I have the factory option sti muffler ( non engraved) and i want to install a downpipe while still retaining the sti muffler. I wonder if this is a good decision or not and if a dp would fit on my muffler. I know it's an axle back. Would this mean I would have a cat before the turbo, dp, and then a mid-pipe cat?

Any suggestions as to what dp to get and if you other sac guys have gotten in any trouble with the law cuz you got 0 cats?

thanks,
Dan

P.S. might be needing some advice/help on the install

No a DP is a good way of getting some ponies. I know some people who run catless. I have not yet gotten in trouble for driving without cats. Go for a Helix DP. Good stuff.

Let me know if you need help installing.

you may want to look into a bosal or stromung DP. they are the same fit as the stock DP and will allow you to use the stock 3rd cat for now and allow for an upgrade to hi-flow in the future.

You can also talk to Nate over at S-Squared / Alfa's & Subaru's about fabricating a custom downpipe to retain your muffler.

I'm pretty noob when it comes to working on cars, however i've heard that the dp isn't too big of a deal when it comes to dismantling and reassembling. I've got some good tutorials. Are there any critical parts of the install that I should take note of? Umm...what are the torque wrench specs for the bolts?

thanks,
Daniel

You should come out to one of our local Saturday night meets in the Natomas area.

And if I feel like replacing the 3rd cat, would I still be able to retain the sti muffler? Basically, I want to do a down pipe first eliminating the 2nd cat. Then I would possibly rid myself of the 3rd cat. But could I do all this with the sti factory muffler?

Thanks,
Daniel

Let me know if you plan on coming to the meet this week and I'll bring a copy of the Subaru service manual on CD. It has every torque spec you'll ever need.

Going to the meets is really tempting, but I know i'll be pretty busy for the next couple weeks...attending weddings and stuff. What are the demographics of you guys? I'm 19 and I go to UCD. You guys sound really helpful. Good to know you guys have my back whenever I need it.

thanks,
Daniel

We're all ages. I think the range is 20 - 40 for most of the regulars, with the bulk of us being mid-late 20s. I'm 23 :|

Yea, I'm the only UCD person that ever comes out, I need to make it more often too, I should be out next week though.
