my wife worked for placer county for about 6 years, and left them in mid '05. a few months ago we got a notice in the mail that they overpaid some insurance premium at some point during her tenure. she called them and they said they would take care of.
today we got a registered letter from them stating that the bill still has not been paid, and if not paid within 30 days they will send it to collections. the ammount due is a whopping $2.48. they spent $4.64 on postage for this letter we got today, plus who knows how many labor hours. what a bunch of douchebags... i think we're going to send them a check for $2.49 and send it postage due.
today we got a registered letter from them stating that the bill still has not been paid, and if not paid within 30 days they will send it to collections. the ammount due is a whopping $2.48. they spent $4.64 on postage for this letter we got today, plus who knows how many labor hours. what a bunch of douchebags... i think we're going to send them a check for $2.49 and send it postage due.

that is classic!
we had an AmEx card that was in "default" when we bought our house.
they hadn't sent a bil for over 5 years since i closed the account...apparently i shorted the final payment by about $0.05 but anything under $5 they don't send a statement so the account went into default and went on our credit report.
took a bit of work and hours on the phone to resolve it.
sent a check for $0.05...how ridiculous is that!
