well I know of the 20D, but what else is good out there in that performance range

 

i have a buddy selling a sweet 20D package 2 or 3 other lenses (high quality) and all the original accessories for $2100.

or just the body w/ the stock 18-200mm lens for $1100.

other options in that region are the Digital RebelXT. great camera for the price and gives you the ability to get into a SLR...then you can always upgrade the body to a 20D/30D in the future and you don't have to scrap your lens collection.
good beginner DSLR and you may find it is enough to do whatever you need in the future.

 

I think I will go with the Rebel for the time being

 

To which my response was "hardly." I much prefer my D50, I tried both and the Canon was . . . meh.
