If your looking for budget speakers, I wouldn't go anything lower than Alpine. Pioneer and Infinity are o.k., Sony, Kenwood, Clarion, nameless other cheapies are subpar and not worth your hard earned money. Polk Momo are WAY overpriced, I had a set of ther 6 3/4 seperates and they suck compared to Alpines. The Alpine Type-E or Type-S speakers are very affordable, and very worth your money. Compare them to other brands at any Circuit City or electronics place that sells car audio. Also, don't buy from a local retailer, prices online are almost 50% less.

cool, thats what my fellow wrx owner lady friend got, alpines and they sound good and she highly reccommended them to me.. but i searched online and i found those sony xplods and they appealed to me because they were inexpensive ($60+-) but i think ill stick to the alpines if i do get them.. now say for instance if i did get them and installed them with the stock head unit, they would sound like caca? i just wantthe quality to be much better, because even the upgraded speaker system sounds caca-ish

i had a set of focal fronts in my bugeye. they were soo damn deep that they wouldn't let the windows close properly, so we built some wood spacers. they cleared the window fine, but if the volume was too loud they would hit the speaker grill built into the door panel.

after a while, the shop swapped them out for a shallower version of the same speaker and everything was perfect.

I shaved the back side of the speaker grills in my civic to clear some slightly oversize speakers.

You can get longer pop clips for the doors. Mine hold the door panel 1/4"-1/2" from the door (But you'd never know by looking.)

i also shimmed the window mount, put in spacers, shimmed the spacers, and dremeled the white bit of plastic on the window... But my 165w fit great. iirc, I think I put the Focal grills on them to protect them from the door.

fwiw, getting the tweeters in irritated me more than the mids.

Running lines was the worst... they're still ran externally.

The good thing about the pioneers is they take such little power to run. Also they are dirt cheap on ebay. I got 6.5 3 ways for the front and 5.25 3 ways for the back and it only cost me 80 bucks shipped.

infinitys for sure, i had all infinitys in my accord and liked them so i put some in my prelude too with 2 infinity 10s with a 1000 watt kenwood amp and it sounded really good. i think thats what i'll use for my subaru too.
