Neither, some guy from india wants to buy my car and he said he will mail me a cashiers check....

I just read that its possible to cash a cashiers check and still have the check be bad & the bank will hold you responsible.... SCAM no deal.

you should be able to verify its authenticity before taking it to the bank if you went that route

Yeah, there are a ton of scams that can happen when you deal outside the country, and a lot use cashiers checks. As a private party, its just not worth it IMO.
