This is how you fast track to management you shuffle things around and use buzz words.

It doesn't need to be fixed, it just has to seem that way.

Ask Chikn, you don't respond, it'll fix itself.

Trust.

Career crossroads: move up (more pay/compensation, more "prestige", more responsibility) or stay (more flexibility)..

Define 'Responsibility' from the stories you've told me it seems like even if you were to move up you'd have a great level of flexibility and by moving up also allows you to 'redefine' the position as long as you stick to your guns about it.

Eh. It's a give-and-take.

The responsibilities would be different, I guess, and not necessarily more of them.

Currently, I can pretty much work whenever (minimum 8 hours regardless of start time) and wherever (office, home or any other approved location) I choose as long as your supervisor agrees and goals are achieved. This new role would be a supervisory role and the policy seems to be "you can't supervise from home". I would be limited to solely working in the office.

I would essentially be doing the same work in either event, but by stepping up into a higher classification, along with a bit more pay, I will be given greater liberty and leeway to complete my assigned tasks. It would be a more "grown up" job, so to speak (self-direction, initiative, etc).

Ultimately, it will be weighing schedule flexibility versus compensation.

That scene always bugged me. Usually the tabletops are connected to the walls. The wall falls and the tabletop is still supported.

That doesn't seem like a bad adjustment and it seems more like a benefit to you. With how things will be changing once the Baby Boomers retire from their state jobs it will be interesting to see how the workforce there changes. I think if you were to move into a supervisory position you might be able to change that old school way of thinking as long as you remain available for your staff to reach you.

I mean as long as things get done in a timely manner and the quality of work doesn't suffer who is to stop you from doing the hoodrat **** you normally do?

Eh as I said on FB the Picard sequences are epic, but Jelleco was painful to watch. He's an inept cocky captain who's actions in that episode should have lead to war, yet somehow magically his attack on a fleet of Cardasian ships in their own space leads to peace and Picard's release?
