Track report from Fernley?
Hey Guys,
I know some of you just ran at the Fernley event. I am looking for a track report to get an idea of how things are up there. I'm trying to get info on how the runoff was (more cleaned up than earlier this year, etc) and generally how the amenities and such were?
Anybody?
Thanks!

It was quite a lot of fun. I didn't drive, but I was there helping out w/ all the paper shuffling and stuff. The driving school was incredibly friendly and everything went smoothly.

Thanks for the info, I read thru those threads but didn't see much there. Since you were there, how did things look? How were the facilities e.g. building, bathrooms, gas? etc. Any insight you can share even though you weren't on the track?

As far as facilities. They are still limited, but there's enough there to get you by. Bathrooms are port-a-johns, there is a snack bar for larger events. There is a fuel truck providing 100 Octane VP. Plenty of parking for vehicles and race trailers. Good view of track, picnic tables.
Now, the track has come a long way. I'd say it's very close to being 100%. The runoff is greatly improved over the last year, there are a few curbs that need to be added IMO, but the track has really "cleaned up" the dirt in the runoff. It's not perfect, but getting better all the time. The course is a frickin' blast! Fastest track I've driven. 15 Turns, the new section is incredibly fun. But be prepared to go through brakes if you plan on running a lot of laps. You can carry A TON of speed around this track.
We should have some video up on SECCS soon, so you can see what the track looks like from in-car... Hope that helps a bit, and drop any of us a line if you come thru Reno.

To follow up on the runoff...It really depends on what your comparing it to. The area around 7-8 is improved greatly..(where Sheehan went off)..They have sifted out a lot of rocks. The newer areas need the most attention now, but your chance of going off are pretty slim there IMO. 1 car went off on the exit of 15 and hit an embankment, but that was a fluke. Lowball has some pics of that. Anyway...
Looks like LagnWagn pretty well summed it up. Yeah, the bathrooms are still port-a-poties. It had a much quainter feel, versus Buttonwillow, Thunderhill or Laguna Seca (other Track Days I have attended without driving as well). I got to talk a bit with the head instructors, the guy heading up the improvements on the course, and the head flagger (who was awesome, and let me take pictures from the flagstand). All seemed really energetic, friendly and professional. Everyone seemed to have great plans for the future of the track and of the driving school.
