Top-off your tanks tonight!

Rita could equal $5 gas

http://money.cnn.com/2005/09/22/news...reat/index.htm

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Remember when gas spiked to $3-plus a gallon after Hurricane Katrina? By this time next week, that could seem like the good old days.

Weather and energy experts say that as bad as Hurricane Katrina hit the nation's supply of gasoline, Hurricane Rita could be worse.

Katrina damage was focused on offshore oil platforms and ports. Now the greater risk is to oil-refinery capacity, especially if Rita slams into Houston, Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas.

"We could be looking at gasoline lines and $4 gas, maybe even $5 gas, if this thing does the worst it could do," said energy analyst Peter Beutel of Cameron Hanover. "This storm is in the wrong place. And it's absolutely at the wrong time," said Beutel.
For those of you that didn't know Rita is expected to hit the Texas by Saturday. Thing is, a lot of oil rigs are in the ocean and will be hit earlier... best to fill up your tank while gas is still "cheap" at $3. *sigh*

If you think me starting this thread or other people running to the gas station tonight will cause a jump of $2 by morning then be my guest.

IF Rita is destined to doom the oil market then it makes sense to fill-up now to avoid paying $30 next week and beyond. If there's a miracle that leaves the refineries untouched then you'll probably have to deal with a $.15 hike for a week or so until everything gets back to post-Katrina capacity.

Either way you’re saving $3 - $30 on your WRX alone until you have to fill-up again. If you have a more economical car (like my wife) then it’s even more over the longer run. It would be smart to fill up all your cars.

Doesn't Cali get their gas come from Saudi Arabia??

They go up because they can, and because we will buy it either way. I am surprised it isn't $5 a gallon already.

Isn't gas in the UK like $8 or $9 a gallon (heard on TopGear)? We've got it good here, even at over $3/gallon.

Found a link: http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...bal_gasprices/
(these prices are for REGULAR gas, not premium the WRX needs, so they would be even higher)

My small frame 1961 VBA 150 with 166cc Malossi kit and expansion chamber pipe was a little wheelie machine. Did about 55mph or so. It made a huge difference over stock. Vespas rule.
