so I was thinking....

the A.D.D. drug Stritera (Stratera?) used commonly for kids is not know how it works, and it IS know to cause kids on it to hear voices.

how the HELL does hearing voices help you concentrate in class?

its the release of dopomine that helps them concentrate.

my point is that the "side effect" counteracts the purpose of the drugs

and please dont tell me youre trying to add and the drugs used to "cure" it because
a) it is a fad disorder that is grossly overdiagnosed
b) its a friggin kid, kids, as is the nature of BEING A KID, don't like to focus in school
c) no drug should be given to anyone, especially a kid that has no choice, that isnt known how it works!

and in my opinion you are incorrect on all 3 of your points.

A) dopomine defficiency is not a fad, its a chemical imbalance.

B) kids with proper levels of dopomine have the ability to focus, while dopomine deficient kids have a MUCH harder time doing so, so the drugs bring those neurochemicals into a more normal balance.

C) so your telling me that surgery patients shouldnt be given novacaine or morphine, before and after an operation???

or how about SSRI drugs for people with chronic depression?

what about vikodin or oxyconton as pain meds???

or even advil for your headaches???

saying no one should ever use any drug is just a silly statement.

have you ever interviewed a CHILD thats been put on an ADD medication?

A) dopomine defficiency is not a fad, its a chemical imbalance.
ADD diagnosis are not done through measuring chemicals. The therapist talsk to the parent and a little bit with the child. The criteria for ADD is vague which is why a typical 5th grader wanting to go run around instead of read a book is commonly misdiagnosed with ADD. ADD is a fad diagnosis

B) kids with proper levels of dopomine have the ability to focus, while dopomine deficient kids have a MUCH harder time doing so, so the drugs bring those neurochemicals into a more normal balance.
kids diagnosed with ADD are not asked whether or not they have the ability to focus. The parent often brings the child in because the teacher "cant control them." This is true though, it is hard to control a 5th grader unless you drug them.

as for C, I never said anything about other meds. A serious look needs to be taken at the actual effects of putting a child on an ADD medication, or any other medication for a "mood disorder." Psychiatrists are just like every other doctor and will give you the diagnosis you want with enough complaining (except for serious things like being schitzo). I never said no one should use a drug, I'm an insulin addict for life. I said no child should be put on a drug that causes them to hear voices in their head, without having a choice.

oh yeah, while we're on it, all you mood disorder medication happy people....how many of you knew that anti-depressants given to kids and teenagers often cause suicidal tendancies? Oh yes, these behavior shaping medications are soooooo good. We should all take pills to make us all obey our superiors and follow a single file line, doing what everyone else does.

also, watch out, because if youre kid doesnt have enough friends when hes young, he definitely has aspergers (aspergers=new fad diagnisis)

I guess stem cell research to cure my diabetes is bad because it "is against 'Gods' will" but medicating your child so they do as you say and dont have a friggin childhood is perfectly fine

then maybe you should publish something with all the facts and distribute it to the parents that chose to have their children put on these drugs. that seems to be where your beef is at.
