I saw this thread after I left home and had been gone for a bit. As soon as I saw it I was calling Josey to make sure she was ok, but she didnt' answer
She finally called me back. Thank goodness. I'd die if I lost her.

i had a cavalier (Z24) and you could feel the lack safty in that thing. Consumer Reports gave chevy bad safety reviews for over 10 years now.
Now here's another question. why in the hell did the driver of the 6 think they could beat a RX-7?

SACRAMENTO COUNTY - The driver of a 1988 Mazda RX-7 that sped away from the scene of a fatal street-race accident in Natomas on Friday has identified himself, officials said.
The 19-year-old Rio Linda man, whose name has not been released, telephoned a CHP dispatcher at 11 p.m. Friday, CHP spokesman Max Hartley said Saturday.
He then drove to the North Sacramento CHP station, where he was interviewed by investigators, Hartley said. The man was not arrested but could face charges in connection with the accident pending the outcome of a CHP investigation, Hartley said.
The man reportedly was racing against a 2003 Mazda 6 driven by William Joseph Mitchell, 18, of Sacramento, on Del Paso Road in North Natomas shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.
Mitchell's car broadsided a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier at more than 80 mph, killing the driver, Kimberly Marie Wheeler, 40, of Woodland.

State threatens jail time, seizure of cars for street racing

Drivers who get caught racing on the street soon will face a year in jail. If they're repeat offenders, they could lose their cars.
The tough new penalties were approved by Gov. Jeb Bush on Tuesday when he signed HB71. The law, which will take effect on Oct. 1, was meant to elevate street racing as a crime and force police and prosecutors to take it seriously, said Rep. John "Q" Quinones, R-Kissimmee, the bill's sponsor.
"In my district, in the last few years, there's been quite a number of deaths associated with drag racing," Quinones said in a telephone interview.
In South Florida, street racing happens almost every night, according to police and sheriff's officials in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Young drivers regularly gather by the hundreds in parking lots to admire each other's engines and challenge rivals to race.
Street racing previously was a second-degree misdemeanor, a crime that came with a $500 maximum fine and up to 60 days in jail. The new law raises street racing to a first-degree misdemeanor.
Even with the increase in stature, South Florida prosecutors have said it will remain a difficult crime to prove in court. They'll still have to show that the two drivers were actually competing against each other instead of just speeding.
Quinones, a defense lawyer who has represented street racers, said prosecutors often cut deals for first-time offenders, allowing them to plead guilty to lesser crimes.
By increasing the penalties, Quinones said he hopes law enforcement officials will notice how serious the public considers street racing and work harder to obtain convictions.

Sometimes I don't get the point of a race - a Mazda 6 vs. an '88 RX-7? That is a gay *** race. I wish there were a pic or better description of the RX - a guy on Friday on the freeway around 3:30, heading in to Natomas was driving like a homo trying to race with me in traffic.
