SRIC Mountain Bike Crew: Quarry Trail - 11/12 - 9am!

Here's our next run. The Quarry trail looks to be pretty fun. I've ridden it before, but it was a looonnnggg time ago.

Lets meet in the lot at 9 *****es. Looks pretty easy to get there. Get yourself up to hwy 49 and take it down in to the canyon like you're going to cool. Hang a right over the bridge towards cool and turn left on to the small dirt road after the bridge

Here's an ASRA map of the trail:

Here's an ASRA PDF for the trail description:

Looks sweet (plus educational)! What difficulty would you rate this? Easier/harder than Olmstead?

i'd like to see the quarry...we sould take the detour they suggest to make it a loop rather than a out-n-back...plus then i'm sure there should be some good downhill coming off the hill.

It should be pretty easy. The elevation change map (in the pdf from my first post) shows that overall this trail is a climb, but has some steep climbs with what appear to be pretty rockin downhills. The quarry trail is pretty hard packed so it's not too hard of a surface to ride (if I'm thinking of the right trail).

N600 - I agree that the detour sounds fun, though maybe sorta painful

It's not a bad climb. There are several creek crossings (5 or 6 IIRC). There just tends to be traffic out there since it's an out and back. Plus the lot is small so get there early.

I'll second Aaron's recommendation on making this a loop!

As for the loop, should we take quarry -> brown bar -> western states and back down? I wonder how many miles this would be? From experience, I can say that the trail from 49 near cool (top of the hill) down is not one we would want to try going up

It's a fun trail to come down, but REAL technical. Not a fast one at all (till you hit quarry trail )

If you don't mind hanging out in a double wide, y'all can kick it @ my place afterwards.
Maybe bbq & drinks?

So we're meeting at 9am (the 2nd sentence says 10am). Right now it looks like the weather will be good, but who knows how that could change in a week...
