snowboarders! hows the drive to boreal??
i was thinkin about checkin out boreal this weekend. i was thinking about taking my cousins integra up there instead of the suby. been putting too many miles on it lately.
is the drive to boreal cool? hill inclines? chain restrictions?
how about to squaw?
i havent been to either, so i was thinking about going there instead of the usual sierra tahoe spot.

anything up I-80 is normally easy sailing.
if there is snowfall, then there will more than likely be chains at one point but for the most part both are easy to get to and you shouldn't have any problem.
the highways to the mountains around here go like this:
I-80: first one clear. main passage east.
US50: normally clear about the same time as I-80 but is a little more mountainous and can see more mudslides or avalanches.
Hwy88: forget about it! unless it hasn't snowed in like three days, don't bother. it never gets plowed until the end and the drive sucks...which is really crappy, cus IMO Kirkwood has the best snow in the area!
oh well. sierra is only 40 mins up US50 from my front door on a good day, so i rarely go anywhere else.

Boreal is actually a pretty fun hill. It's close and inexpensive. You can definitely have fun there. They don't have the terrain of some of the bigger resorts but it's not that big of a deal.
we used to go to soda springs (an exit or two before boreal) and get an all day pass for cheap (used to be like $28) then at the end of the day(around 3 or so), you can go into truckee, grab some grub and warm up, then hit boreal on the way back out (bout 5-6) cus the soda springs lift passes used to be good for night boarding at boreal.
its a full day, but a lot of fun!
soda springs isn't huge, but its got some fun stuff to play on.
anyone know if they still do that?
other resorts up 80 that are good are Northstar@Tahoe & Squaw Valley.
boreal caters to park riders and normally the pipes and park are packed making it hard to enjoy unless you like riding the rest of the mountain.
Sierra@Tahoe has so many boarder parks now! it was crazy when i went a few weeks ago.
there seems to be tabletops and rails on almost every run now...kinda fun.

I go up every weekend and trust me dont waste your money at boreal unless you are a complete beginner
Hit Sugar Bowl off 80 or go past squaw (squaw is too expensive in my opinion) and hit alpine meadows on 89 either place will be fine as it is supposed to be sunny and warm all weekend so leaving the suby behind shouldnt be a problem.

North Star is the only place to go in Tahoe IMO, unless you got the phat bank roll for Heavenly, and thats just a biatch of a drive. Boreal's ok if your a border and into the parks/pipes and thats all your into. Northstar has great park/pipes (from what I've seen) and great runs all over. All but 2 lifts are detachable quads and they have some of the best grooming. I haven't been to Sugarbowl in about 6 years but if they put a detachable on Mt. Lincoln it would be nice, plus with parking at their new Mountain you got great access.
Northstar is right up 80, take the 2nd exit right after Truckee (its exit B towards 267). Its worth the extra $10-$15 bucks over Boreal.

ok, so going to boreal is definitely out of the question now. im thinking about hitting up squaw or sugarbowl. what do you recommend? sugarbowl is $37 and squaw is $54. thats a fricken difference...
