I have a '96 Legacy w/ 240k on the original motor, which is the EJ22 variant.
It seems that the Phase II EJ25s are the problem.
Parts = ~$150.
Labor = ~15hrs X shop rate = a butt load.

OMG Twill you are my hero for the day. I thought that place was only in Idaho. WooHoo! My college buddies and I would walk over there after a night of drinking to fill our bellies. It was the only place that was open till 3am in the little town of Moscow.

Thanks!
