desert eagles are .50cal, which i cant use. i can only get a 9mm or a .40 cal, and me being me, im gonna go for the larger round. i wanna try and find something around the 500-600 range. right now im thinking Walther P99, Glock 20, Sig Sauer 226, or Sig Sauer Pro

I beleive CHP issues a Smith & Wesson 4006.
If you're doing this for training purposes start with a 9mm, ammo is cheeper.
I have an old 9mm Glock 17. If I were to go from 9mm to .40, I'd probaly stay Glock. If it's "knock down power" you want, .45 ACP is hard to beat. (Unless you go Desert Eagle .50) You can probaly find a used 1911 for less then $300 if you go .45.
Can they sale guns at pawn shops in CA? I bet you can score a deal there.

They didn't really care. Our first customer didn't show up until we were open for about 45 min.

I would second the suggestion to go 9mm. Ammo will be much cheaper.
I'm a Beretta fan, so I would always recommend a 92 (9mm) or 96 (.40). I have an Elite II 96 myself. I prefer metal guns, especially if it's your first gun.
If you absolutely have to go polymer, look into the XD. And of course you can't go wrong with a Glock.

well i went and shot my friends sig 226 .40 today. real nice gun, like how the grip felt, but its pretty heavy, and really nose heavy. so ide like somehting on the lighter side. i handled a glock 17 and glock 19 today, the 19 felt good in my hands. i think ill be looking to get one of those, in .40 or the P99.
I've got both an S&W 99 (.40) and an S&W Airweight (.38).
Both are a bit on the small side, so I would guess they're primarily for backup use. Which reminds me, perhaps it would be fun to have an SRIC session at the Gun Room sometime.
