Saddam WILL BE EXECUTE!

After the verdict was read, Saddam yelled out, "Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!"

Clashes immediately broke out in north Baghdad's heavily Sunni Azamiyah district.

Saddam initially refused the chief judge's order to rise; two bailiffs lifted the ousted ruler to his feet and he remained standing through the sentencing.

Before the hearing began, one of Saddam's lawyers, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, was ejected from the courtroom after handing the judge a memorandum in which he called the trial a travesty.

Chief Judge Raouf Abdul-Rahman pointed to Clark and said in English, "Get out."

In addition to the former Iraqi dictator and Barzan Ibrahim, his former intelligence chief and half brother, the Iraqi High Tribunal convicted and sentenced Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the head of Iraq's former Revolutionary Court, to death by hanging. Iraq's former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Three other co-defendants were convicted of murder and torture and sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

One defendant was acquitted for lack of evidence.
That is all

i just read about that on Yahoo! myself. i must admit that i'm a bit mixed on this. i do feel that he deserves extreme punishment for what he did, and what he was responsible for, but i also feel that there was no way he could have recieved a truly fair trial given his reputation. can you imagine the worldwide outcry of protest had he been found innocent?

still either way, i'm just glad the whole trial **** is over (barring any appeals of course).

why should such an a55hole like this even deserve a fair trial? he killed thousands of innocent people and god knows how many uncounted there were and there was obvious evidence it was him. i say he should be tortured to no bounds until he died from his torture.

sadly it won't be a public execution They need to tie sand bags on his legs so his head will pop off

GT35 STI: The military still has hanging as a punishment for its most serious war crimes, it does seem a little outdated. I think we should burn him alive after we give him a little bukkake session!

Why is it so hard to believe they chose to hang him? The Iraqis are going to be the ones instituting his sentance. It's not like anyone from the united states government is going to be anywhere near it when it's carried out. Can you imagine the world outcry if the united states had any involvement in his execution? I'm personally suprised they didn't vote to behead or stone him.

some countries still behead criminals. i think that would have been a better sentance personally. at this point, it's not a deterrant like the death penalty is over here, it's outright punishment and should be treated as such.

i'm surprised that a former US attorney general was on his defense team. he should be charged with treason for that.

I wonder if they even have an appeals process in Iraq.

Presumed innocent until found guilty? Defending a person accused of a crime is not treasonous, and the fact that so many here are so quick to deride the use of a "fair" trial is dissapointing to me.

no, defending a person is not criminal. but aiding an enemy of the country is.

Just think about what the public opinion/reaction could have been 60 years ago during the Nuremberg Trials. I'm pretty sure these historic trials set the standard for most all international "crimes against humanity" cases since.

You must remember, the Slobodan Milosevic trial was cancelled while in progress after the former Serb leader mysteriously died, so what's happening now seems unusual to us because we have no recent memory of how these types of trials are conducted.

Not directed at you specifically, but the correct verb for execution by rope around the neck is HANGED

If you say he is hung, then that just means he has a huge ****.
