Restaurant input wanted

I'm looking for a nice restaurant to take a date to before a theatre engagement in Sacramento on a Saturday. It needs to be somewhere downtown and needs to be open around 4 pm. The type of food I'm looking isn't particular;I'm just looking for recommendations.

I don't know if it is open at 4, but El Fornio's isn't bad. Nice atmosphere, full bar, ok service, and it's not too expensive. That's where I'd go. It's right off of capitol.

Spataro's was really good the last time I went, right by the Capitol. It's the old head chef from Sammy Chu's (where Icon now is) only he's cooking his native Italian instead of asian fusion.

Il Forniao is right next to my office. It where I go during the week to get my drink on. I really like their food. It's kind of upscale though. They serve italian food. The gnochhi is awesome!!!!! It's attached to the wells fargo building. Everything in there is white marble and white plaster with cherry colored furniture IIRC, very tall windows and ceilings probably 20' or so. Plus they have a completely enclosed outdoor dining area. Pretty sure that it is open at 4pm, I know they do lunches and dinners during the week.

I also really likes Isabella's on 21 st near K st. They have a really cool resturaunt atmosphere. They have doors in the wall that open to the exterior right on the street scape. Although it's starting to get colder now so they will probably be shut. They serve mexican and italian food. Both I thought were really well presented and the service was very friendly.

I need to eat out downtown more often. I haven't been to nearly enough places.

Have a good date Rich!!

if you have the budget, feel like spending the $$, and know the girl well enough, try Mortons of Chicago. the theatre sounds like a kind of high class date so a high class dinner would go well with that. Il Forniao will fit the bill quite nicely also.

FYI: Mortons for 2 without wine will cost about $160-$180, with wine around $220.
But, for whatever reason the last several times I went there the the steaks were not up to par... Ruth's Chris Steak House is better IMO.

Il Fornaio is a good choice.

Zen Toro - very good Japanese food but I think they open at 5pm. Worth going there, however. I would rate their sushi (depends on the chef however) higher than Mikuni's.

There is also Mikuni Sushi downtown as well. They open at 4pm.

Right next to Mikuni is PF Chang's although I do not like their food.

There's a ton of good resturants downtown. What type of food are you looking for, how fancy, and what type of atmosphere (lively, quiet and romantic)? There's a few nice resturants in town that tend to keep it casual as well. By that I mean great food and atmosphere with a table withh of suits to your left with wranglers and **** kickers to your right.

Aioli Bodega Espanola
The Firehouse
Paragary's
Bibas
4th St Grille
Mortons

More lively would be Tapa the World, Fats and quite a few others.

Hit up Dragonfly. It's downtown on Capitol at 23rd or so. The food and service there are awesome. Josey and I have been there twice - we took my parents there last weekend and they loved it too.
