resonator or silencer?

Hey fellow club members i was wondering which u guys would recommend for my exhaust. i currently have a blitz nur-spec axel back for my 99 rs coupe. i found a silencer for 45 without installation. i called muffler tech on florin n they can install it for around 20-25 bucks. they can also install a resonator for around 60 bucks. which is best for performance? which is best for lowering noise level? motor is complete stock. any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

think of a muffler as a noise reducer and a resonator as a noise shaper.

Resonators are usually tuned to get rid of an annoying frequency. Resonators also help with raspiness.

^^Nice explanation, Double Phister. ^^

I'm not a fan of silevcers, I'd go with a resonator any day. As stated above, it will most likely deepen the tone and probably sound mellower at the same time.

your having noise problems with just an axle back? im not sure how easy or hard it would be to weld in a resonator, with the limited amount of piping there is with just an axle back.. i would rather just get 1 of those removable silencers.. go from quiet to loud anytime you want

Try driving for 1.5 years with full 3 inch catless straight pipes on a Subaru...I used to rev at Harleys on the road and they'd rev back...the noise was about equal!

I was only mid-pipeless for a week, I became too paranoid of cops.

you know what, so was i for about 1 month, then it wore off.. i was never pulled over for my car being too loud.. i guess you could say the sound was discreet since it was coming from under the car and not behind it .. and its not so loud if you drive conservatively, but it can also be as loud as the devil

Eh, I've heard the catted dp with no catback and it really is very mellow compared to the setup I had. I, too, never got pulled over for being too loud, although I was ticketed for pretty much every other thing they possibly could. I even had my car impounded and they turned it on and didn't seem to have a problem with it. Catless (and catted) straight pipes are actually shockingly mellow at idle, you'd be surprised. But when you step on it they are mean and LOUD!

yea it's pretty loud. especially when im stepping on the gas (just to 3k rpm) its still pretty loud. so the resonator wouldnt fit? i was gonna go that route but since i never took it in i wont kno. i guess i'll find out wed when i take it in. the blitz alex back is a pretty big pipe.
