well this is why i'm not a network engineer, I managed to totally isolate my router so I cannot distribute wired LAN access throughout the house...I'll either have to pull the distributed cables to the kitchen where i want the wifi ap or run a cat 5e cable from the kitchen to the com cabinet in the master closet.

they did, i had just hooked up a gigabit switch to the router and plugged the drops into that. I had then plugged in my router to one of those drops to get the WiFi AP into the middle of the house. I failed to realize that mean the switch was before the router so it was only sending WAN to all the drops. For now I've put the router in the Master closet so all the drops are now part of the LAN.

Nope it's a $20 unmanaged gigabit switch.
