Ratteling Friday.

so some of you that own wrx's (02-07) have any fixes on interior rattleing issues please input since im going to try to figure out where all the rattles are coming from this weekend.

So far i have performed the rattle that comes from the cruise control button.

i am looking to do this tomorrow:

i aslo noticed there is sometimes a clicking noise that comes from the clock pod. so im have to check that out as well.

lastly, since i own a wagon. i noticed a faint rattle coming form the rear. No idea where its coming from since im usually driving.

Dyno Matt the whole thing. That should cure it.

I get some rattling in the rear of my wagon on reverse, due to my heavey duty clutch.

For all the plastics you can use felt and some spray glue to quiet the rattle. It's just two pieces of plastics rubbing together. I've always compensated the rattles with a loud sound system and loud exhaust haha.

I noticed the rattling in the rear and for me it ended up being a loose tool in the spare tire area.

Over the weekend,

-I put weather seal in the front vent defroster area and on the front clip of the a pillar area

-Steering Column, disassembled it and them put some weather seal on the top of the steering area ( parking light switch area) and then also in the bottom of the steering panel.

-for wagons the back wind shield motor mount was loose. I put some blue loctite and tighten the 3 bolts.

-removed front fender liner

-fix my saggy fron bumper, Extra bolt drilled through bumper and fender where the sliding bracket is fount on the bumper.

i gave it for run and no more sounds! and then eventually my driverside door panels is making some creakin noise dunno what it is but that's the next task.

I thought the rattles were a feature? Lol

I have pretty bad rattling from the cupholder mostly. It has been out so many times I don't think that the screws really tighten fully anymore.

Stopping rattles is easy! Just take out everything. The end.

I happened to get a roll of FatMat (50') for free, and I used all of it up. You can see about 1/3 here, It is amazing how much road noise reverberates through this area. Particularly the spare tire well, it has a lot of flat areas that act like a drum when road debris/noise hits it. Its the only area besides the transmission tunnel that I used a double layer of FatMat.

The rest is spread in a single layer over the whole car - floor, doors, roof, etc. I strongly recommend you go and buy a better mat than FatMat. It got the job done, and it was free, but it's not the best.

This company makes good materials, I got some Ensolite closed cell foam from them which I plan to apply over the FatMat. They have a package for $160 that will have just enough material to do a layer of mat and Ensolite foam in all the important places.
RAAMaudio - Automotive sound deadening products

known rattle sources:
-the wagon trunk lock actuating rod rattles in it's place
-anything in the spare wheel well
-two pressure-release openings behind the rear bumper skin, right behind the rear wheels (they let in outside noise that sounds like trunk rattles). They are plastic square things with rubber flaps hanging in them.
-the openings behind those pressure-release openings tend to catch change and trash that rattles

What does everyone use to insulate the the top hats from our coilovers. I have my top hats at the max camber, and they let in tons!! Of road noise.

I've always wanted to dyno mat my truck then lay insulation down, just feel like I would break every tab possible and it would take forever since I have never done it.

I called a local place to get quoted on a price, they couldn't give me an exact $$ figure but said prolly around 500-700 depending how much I wanted done in my trunk.
