If you submit to that test you are an idiot.

When they ask you to do the test, the correct answer is: "sorry but I am late for an appointment." They will try to convince you that you have to participate, however as the program link below states "participation in the survey is not mandatory"

good to know!!!

At each site, one lane of traffic is coned off for testing equipment. A CHP officer directs randomly-selected vehicles to that lane.
riiiiiiight

But if they dont have an awd dyno... then they wouldnt even be able to check our cars right?

They don't need an AWD dyno to do a subaru. They will just do it while revving the car in neutral.

From the site:

"At each site, one lane of traffic is coned off for testing equipment. A CHP officer directs randomly-selected vehicles to that lane."

"randomly" my ***...

"Although participation in the survey is not mandatory; it is critical to the success of the survey. The BAR representative will do everything possible to accommodate motorists who are selected for the survey."

"accomodate" my ***...

This to go along with the discussion of taxing drivers based on miles driven: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=16763.

Can you imagine if vehicles were just smogged @ the tailpipe, nuff said?

Has anyone ever received a citation after submitting to one of these tests? From what I'm reading on the link dz posted, it looks like the CHP officer's only role in the test is to safely direct traffic, not conduct the test. The test is conducted by a BAR representative (or licensed smog tech, for BAR) and is only for data collection, not to find and cite people that are violating emissions laws by having mods done to their car. It also sounds like this is probably just a "sniffer" test, and in many cases a lot of modded subarus (especially on a good tune) run cleaner than a lot of older cars that are still running smog equipment, so it doesn't really look like its something to worry about. I'd say if you're one of the "lucky" ones to get selected for the test just be compliant and pull away slowly/quietly as possible when the test is done so you don't get pulled over again and ticketed.

i dont think you can receive one from reading that dmv thing it says its just a survey im sure if you fail some where a cop will pull you over if he can after though but as for the actual smog check i dont think you can be ticketed

I was under the impression you could be given a "fix it" ticket if your car failed these drive by tests. I'm not worried seeing as I run colorado plates.
