struts/shocks don't "blow out" because of springs.

unless you're running astronomically HIGH spring rates that are strong enough to bend the shims on the piston by forcing the fluid backwards through the pop-off valves, springs will NOT "blow out" struts/shocks.

bottoming out blows them out.
this is caused by spring rates on lowered springs being too soft and not giving the chassis enough support to keep it off the bumpstops while driving around.
this can also happen with cheap springs if the springs are made poorly or use poor quality spring steel and the springs loose rate/static height and sag.

and if this is the case with the above mentioned spring set, then stay away from those springs.
new struts won't improve the situation, you'll just end up buying more expensive replacements later on.

most of the time this happens with hot wound springs. which is more common, since its a cheaper process. cold wound springs are more reliable and consistant, but are more expensive because of the process, materials and machines that make them.

i can't comment on the quality of the Tanabe springs, just giving you things to check into before purchasing.

What he said...

I have the GF210s on my STi and have never bottomed out the suspension on my car. They are quite a bit stiffer than the stock STi springs were, but not to the point that I call it harsh. My wife will tell you a different story on the ride quality, but she's a girl so what does she know about car stuff...

OMG now I'm not the only one with a sunroof!!!

On the spring subject, how do you know if the springs you install will cause the strut to bottom out?

It shouldn't be a problem with most of the "brand name" springs you would buy for the WRX. I think the problem though with the s-techs is that they lower the car so much.

don't mash over speedbumps or use Sprint Springs and you should be fine.
