I think a lot of the real pros use linux and proprietary software.

having spent a lot of time at pixar I would say no.

I've run a couple of sniffers on their network.

He's probably right. You don't need a Pro to put out Pixar quality. A regular macbook will suffice.

i've used both and i like working with a pc muuuuch more. i hated working on macs. i dont know how many times they gave me some "unexpected error occurred" and i lost a **** load of work. its happend twice since i've used PC for editing.

so what are the top brands i should go with. i've heard both bad and good from alienware and that dell XPS or whatever. anyothers?

Build your own!

But, if you don't want to do that, Dell systems are decent. I wouldn't get Alienware. Overpriced, and I think they were just bought by Dell, so now their line isn't as superior to what it once was.

i wish i knew how to build my own but i only know how to do somethings. not enough to build one. i looked at alienwares and almost everything has options. i'll have to give dells a look more too.

Yeah, I probably won't be much help though, since the last time I bought a whole computer (not counting laptops) was in '98. And if I had the chance to go back in time, I probably would *****slap myself for buying a Gateway. Great computer, just overpriced. Nowadays, though, it just seems like there is less of a price difference between pre-built Dells and rolling your own.
