Need advise on a Router

So I switched from DSL To cable and bought a D link Wireless USB router... problem is the connection is too weak for the wireless usb thing to pick up a network. I tried moving the computer a bit and moving the router closer but I couldnt make too much of a difference.

Was hopeing I could get someone to tell me a router I can buy that puts out a higher signal?? or something. thanks

edit: i am the main computer and im trying to hook up my parents computer with the wireless usb downstairs.

Pre-N routers have the best range at this time.

another option would be either a +5 or +7 db external antenna for the router or internal PCI wireless card, this would get you up and running as well.

There are a few G Turbo routers that come with a built in +5 antenna (like mine, a D-Link 4300)

I have a Linksys WTR54G, which is a B+G router. It works pretty well, I can't complain. I've had good luck with Linksys products.

I'm using the Netgear Mimo 7 antenna super duper scopper router! The range seems pretty good, better than my old D-Link 614+.

Stay away from the Linksys A/G router, that thing sucks huge ****.

make sure that (if you have one) your cordless phone is not on the same frequency as the wireless router.....

I'm to cheap to replace router or phone at this time..so I am wired into my wireless router

Frequency is not the same thing as channel. Wireless routers share the same frequency, you need to make sure you are on different channels
