LOOMIS, Calif. -- A photo on a Del Oro High School student's myspace.com page led to his arrest on numerous felony charges, including intention to make destructive devices, the Placer County Sheriff's Department announced Thursday.

Daniel Blanchard, 18, of Loomis, was arrested Friday on suspicion of intending to make a destructive device, possession of a weapon on school grounds and possessing marijuana for sale, concentrated cannabis and a hypodermic needle.

The arrest was the result of an investigation started by Placer County sheriff's deputy Ryan Berry, the school resource officer assigned to Del Oro.

Berry saw a photo on Blanchard's myspace.com page showing Blanchard smoking from a bong. Berry called Blanchard to his office at the school to talk to him about the photo and to express his concern that Blanchard may be smoking pot.

Blanchard admitted smoking marijuana, the sheriff's department said. A search of Blanchard's backpack led to the discovery of marijuana, hashish and a marijuana pipe.

A search of Blanchard's car revealed more hashish and marijuana, compact digital scales, packaging materials, bongs, four knives, more than a dozen hypodermic syringes, gun powder and potassium nitrate.

A search of Blanchard's bedroom yielded more chemicals used in bomb making and several printed materials on making bombs, the sheriff's department stated.

Blanchard was arrested on four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge and booked at the Placer County Jail in Auburn with a bail of $150,000. Blanchard posted bail on Saturday and was released.

Blanchard's arraignment is scheduled for May 24.
