Either get a reverse-facing low profile scoop, or fab up a screen using mesh from Home Depot. That way the heat from your FMIC can flow out of the engine compartment, and up-and-over your windshield.

Some French-speaking friends of my parents tell me that there is a bit of French slang for what happened to you. I'm not sure of the spelling, but it's pronounced "bo-bee-tay"...derived from the unfortunate consequences bestowed upon Mr. John Wayne Bobbitt for cheating on his wife Lorena several years back.
that wood didnt dent anything? thats a miracle in itself.. i have 2 dents on my right fender from leaning on it, and putting minor pressure on it.. subaru metal(and paint) is teh sux0rs!1! still i h34rt my subie tho
