my whole problem with it is that the term "Marriage" has religious connotations. Anyone that is not married in a church or by a religious figure, should be a Civil Union.
seperation of church and state.
the No On 8 people are going about this all wrong, they just need to ask for civil unions to have the same legal rights as a marriage in the state.

"marriage" should be decided 100% by the church. then churches can decide whether they want to allow gay marriages or not.
the government should then convert all state recognition of "marriage" (and the rights and benefits afforded) to "civil unions" -- so a straight couple married in a church is simply recognized by the government as a civil union. gay couples should then be given the exact same rights.
remove government from the "marriage" business -- it has no right, either way, to recognize marriages as "marriages," only to recognize the civil union of a couple of any gender.
right? right.

if you get married in a church, that's fine!
after, you need to apply to the state for a civil union, since a marriage is only recognized by your church and not the state.
