On a side note, I know someone that is going to graduate from UC Berkeley in June that has close to 70K on credit cards (not to mention student loans) that fully expects to get a first job out of school paying upwards of 100K. I'll take people that fail at life for 1,000 please Alex...
- 30-something year-old former co-worker
- Single mom
- Makes payments on 2 cars (VW GLI, some HUGE SUV) that are in upside-down loans
- Attends University of Phoenix
- Already has ~$70k in student loans
- Plans to get a doctorate in something just to be able to go to school for a few more years so she doesn't have to start making payments on the student loans (she currently only makes payments on the interest).
Yeah, she's smart...

[QUOTE=dz;2044398]Having credit is never a bad thing, however using it poorly is a bad thing.... QUOTE]
Yup. I work in home finance and its definitely not about how much "available" credit you have. In fact, having too many credit cards with low or zero balances could also be considered a risk as far as lenders are concerned because as they see it, with that much available credit you are easily able get yourself over your head in debt after buying a house (or refinancing) and run the risk of default on the loan. The big things a lender will look at though is the credit score, late payments on mortgages or credit lines in the last 12-24 months and how much your minimum monthly payments are on your loans or credit lines.
If you wanna build your credit up fast. Don't apply for too many credit lines, keep your payments current and keep balances on revolving accounts under 50% of their maximum limit. Multiple accounts being 50%+ of their limit or close to max out will hurt your credit score.

I didn't say it was necessary, only helpful. If you have paid $10k or so in revolving debt and are currently at 20-30% of your available credit, you're playing the game the way lenders want you to. Provided your payments are all on time and whatnot of course.

I'm so bored today, I walked across the street and got the damn paper... Reading about Artests kid, that is just ****ty as hell, the girl is 4 and already has caner/wilm's tumor on her stomach. She has to go through chemo and all that stuff. I guess there's a 1 and 10,000 chance of getting it as a kid

I'd say i've paid a little under 15k on my credit card over a few years time, and I have a current balance of 0.00 dollars on it
