I know you know more than me about the mechanics of radar detection and avoidance.... but it still smells like BS based on what I do know. Explain to me how an F117 can move in a pattern that cannot be discerned to be an aircraft if it would otherwise generate enough signal return to be detected?

radar tracks speed and path. the flight path and speed are tailored around the known radar in the area. if the object is detected at seemingly random and different places and speeds each time the radar sweeps that area, it won't be registered as a hit.

yeah, the shape of the planes plays a part in reducing the radar profile, but that's not the major factor in it's stealthiness (i think i just made that word up).
