Monaco GP

It was on this morning, did anyone see it?

Raikonin (sp?) led the entire race to end it with 23 seconds ahead of everyone else. I love the new rules, Ferrari is not dominating anymore.

it definitely is more interesting this season. the only rule i disagree with is the qualifying. the way it's currently set up, the outcome of the previous race has too much impact on the next race.

IMHO, keep everything the same but revert back to the qualifying rules of a few years ago. 12 total laps allowed which pretty much narrows you down to 4 hot laps. the tire rules will keep the teams from getting too out of control with it.

I'm just glad Alonso isn't on the podium anymore. Fabio Briatore gets on my nerves.

the new rules suck, because it's less competitive than it was last year! i really don't think it was an unfair advantage for ferrari, everyone else just sucked. the pit stops aren't nearly as important anymore now that they have to use one set of tires. i'd hardly call raikkonnen leading the whole race by 23 seconds an improvement over last year. FIA = teh suck, just let them race dammit.

McLaren is the bestest team ever. They're my favoritest. So I'm happy they're back. Well, at least Raikonen is. Now if only they could switch out West for Marlboro cancer stick main sponsorship, they could go back to the sweet red/white color scheme...

both Williams/BMW and Mercedes/McLaren couldn't get their acts together last year, it was Ferrari and Renault out of nowhere that were the only two competitive teams, between that and Sato freaking blowing his engine every other race . . .

Only a rod huffing homo would take the top form of motorsports and take steps to limit costs and competition. One set of tires, 2 races/practice sessions/quals on each engine - that fuc-ks little boys more than a catholic priest. Screw that I want the good old days back.

I could care less if Ferrari wins all the time, but if they are willing to do what it takes and spend the cash, I say let them.

well the stupid part is that ferrari won all the time because the other teams were busy being assclowns.

I don't want F1 to become a spec series. These things go in cycles. It wasn't that long ago when Ferrari could barely get a podium finish in whole season. McLaren and then Williams had their day starting back when Prost and Senna were teammates (now there was drama). I used to think that Ferrari had so many dark years that they should give it up. I was wrong - they persevered, spent the time and research money, and have since come back with a vengeance. It isn't all just Michael's driving.

Some rule changes are okay but not the ones that completely stifle technical innovation. If I want to watch restrictor plates, rear-drive spec conversions to what was a FWD chassis, old school carburetion, a dozen phony rolling 're-starts' per race, and chawin' tabaccy sponsorship, I know to tune in Speed almost any time of the day or night.

I just keep telling myself that its a natural cycle, because the cars were vastly different than they are now in the 80's and 90's with active suspension, turbocharging, different aero rules. One good thing I've heard is that next year's V8s are already revving in excress of 20k RPM.

Technology is a wonderful thing.

I've heard naysayers voice an opinion that technology in racing no longer contributes to everyday transportation but I think that's way off base. I think things like variable valve timing (AVCS in subies), advanced ECUs, improving ABS, lightweight materials, and tuning for best power/fuel economy/emissions comes out of data obtained from racing. I believe this is the reason why Subaru made running changes to the STi. They are subtle changes but seen as worthwhile for the overall improvement while not costing big bank to implement.

I think it's really cool that street cars are starting to see dry sump oil systems and 10k service intervals, granted Porsche is one of the only companies doing it right now, eventually it'll trickle down. Speaking of Porsche, anyone else see that they're going back to prototypes at Le Mans (only P2, but still cool) them and Mazda with a Renesis-derived motor, and supposedly Audi's next-gen prototype (R9?) is on the horizon. I was pissed that I didn't get to catch the ALMS race @ Mid-Ohio, it's only like an hour away from me
