It's probably overloaded. A friend of mine was using like 15 minutes ago. Apparently the home of a prominent family in Vacaville is on the list.

Yeah there are 17 offenders listed in my zip code. The site is bogged down but if you keep clicking you will get through.

This seems like a good idea on the outside but I mean they show pictures, list their crimes and give the full address. Then again if you are molesting young children then I guess you gave up your right to privacy. I don't know, I'm torn. I just think some people will use it improperly. This could (read probably will) fuel rage toward these people. Most of the people in my area are old guys but there was even a 35 year old woman.

Interesting. I mean are they hoping this will be some sort of deterrent?

I guess what is worse is if the person who is registered moved out and a nice family was living there and someone came by and burned the place down because "they found it on the list"!

I see this website shutting down very quickly. What exactly does it hope to do? I guess if you looked on your street and found out your neighbor was on the list you might not want him sitting for your kids but other than that I see it causing problems for those who decide to use the list wrongly.

I find it kind of eerie that you can search by school for sex offenders.

I guess only a few of the sex offenders make enough to afford a house in my zip code.

Just kidding. I can't even afford a house in my zip code. That is why I live in an apartment dammit!

Hmm, this list must not include certain categories of offenders. I know a guy that molested a friend's 11-year old daughter a several years ago. He pleaded guilty and was able to escape serving jail time with certain restrictions on what he couldn't do (like molest other kids, probably). His name is not on the list.

Also, you can't assume that molesters look like freakin' depraved individuals. The guy I knew was good looking and really popular with the ladies. Everyone thought he was a really nice guy. We never noticed anything odd about his behavior or conversation at any time. Investigators noted that the only noticeable thing about him was that his home seemed to have a lot of items of interest toward very young girls, like dolls, toys, etc. although this could be explained because he has a daughter that he used to share joint custody with his ex-wife. No, he never did anything inappropriate with his own daughter and yes, he has lost all unsupervised visitation rights.

I've got 5 in my zip code. I don't know how they afford to live here???

All 5 had the same offense: "LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS"
