loomis to placerville: best route?

i'm going to be inspecting a couple of sites tomorrow for work. one is in loomis and the other in placerville.

I was wondering if you guys had suggestions for which freeways to take to get from loomis to placerville.

Google/yahoo maps say to take 80N to auburn then 49 to Placerville, but it looks pretty mountainous plus it's supposed to rain.

any suggestions or is 49 the way to go?

49 is probably your best bet. FUN road to drive (especially the whole length). If you wanted more "highway" type driving you could do 80W -> 50E and you'll run right in to Pville.

i guess a less windy way would be to take I-80 to Sierra College Blvd./Hazel Ave. to hwy 50, then up 50 to pville.
or jump from hazel thru folsom, via Greenback/folsom blvd/Bidwell and then get on 50 in Folsom.
either way, you might hit traffic in either folsom or on Hazel.
but either is gonna be shorter (time wise) than driving up 80 to hwy49 to pville.
depending on where in loomis you're at, you could take folsom/auburn to greenback and then thru folsom to 50.

if you're in auburn its best to take hwy49...yeah its twisty, but that's the fun part about it!
you in a subie or you doing the run in a work truck? i can see where a work truck might be kinda lame on hwy49.

We used to take Aburn-Folsom to Folsom Dam road to Cameron Park, then jump on 50, until the Dam road got closed in 01.

Oh, and 49 is the most fun, but it can be dangerous so be careful.

NisaWRX and I just drove 49 between El Dorado Hills and Auburn last night... watch out for fallen branches and pine cones! The cones do make for a good moving slalom in the wind though.
