quick! two options:
1) submerge the ipod in a bag of rice over night (the rice will soak in the water)
2) let it sit in rubbing alcohal (will wash off the water and will not leave any residue when the RA evaporates)
dude in one of my classes last semester did the rice thing (screen had a few water spots but it still worked fine)

no, you want to put it in purified water.
water by itself will not harm electronics. it's all the **** in the water that causes things to short out.
i had a car stereo faceplate get soaked in mountain dew (stupid pop out cupholders in the wrx) and it wigged out. i left it in a cup of purified water overnight and it worked fine after drying out.
