NEIN.
I think I might just pick up the Dell XPS 420.
Benefits:
slightly less than doing a full build with parts from newegg
no compatibility concerns
it will just work
it's here and built within a few days
Cons:
Probably made with lead connectors by young kids in China
1GB less memory than the newegg build had, but I can add more later
Less control over internal components
Dunno, the Dell is looking pretty enticing.

Ya with DELL doing what they do it's hard to encourage yourself to go through the hassle of building your own computer, but I think this time around I'm going to finally do it, that way I can just start swapping out components when I want to upgrade instead of having to keep buying a complete new set up

I've had two Dell laptops now and have had no issues with either.
So the main thing I need to decide then, is to go with an xps 420 or an xps 720. The main difference between the two, hardware-wise, is the PSU. The power-supply in the 720 is 750w and the psu in the 420 is 425w. The cost difference comes out to nearly $400 though, and I could probably just put in a more power PSU in the future if I wanted. I need to do some more homework on how proprietary the Dell systems actually are.

I'm trying to put together a full system here though. Did you pick up a new PSU, case, hdd, dvdr, etc? I intend to make my current system an FC8 box for playtimes. I might put some new memory in it, whack the disk, config samba and use it as my po-folk NAS.

See and that's where I'm getting stuck. I've done the 'upgrade the main components' thing for like.. umm...5 years now I think. Maybe four. My **** is outdated and I need to replace the whole deal.
Yeah i've been planning a big upgrade for a while so i was buying little **** here & there like the 750w so i'd have what i needed when the time was right.
