You could custom order your vans back in 1982/83 with up to three different checker colors on the same shoe (in different parts of the shoe) and special graphics on the sides of the soles. Mine said "Vans BMX".

umm.. you could send any fabric to Vans and they would make shoes out of it.

But I had several custom made Van's.
My two favorites: black Chuck Taylor style with yellow Happy Faces & standard hightops I had made out of camoflage BDUs.
I'm surprised no one has posted that goofy BMX pic of me...
